Information for owners on overnight care at Abbey Veterinary Centre

Overnight Inpatient Care

All inpatients at Abbey Veterinary Centre are cared for during surgery hours by our qualified veterinary staff. On weeknights, bank holidays and weekends (When our surgery closes), any hospitalised animals may be transported to Sheriff Highway'S Emergency Service, In Gateshead where they can be more closely supervised by emergency vets and nurses.

If this is the case, we will telephone you first to discuss any arrangements, and you can either collect your pet and take them yourself or we can arrange a transfer via East Durham Animal Ambulance.

Charges for hospitilasation and any treatment given will be made directly by Sheriff Highways Vets.

When your pet is hospitalised at Sherriff Highway, the vets will contact you if there is any change in your pets condition.

For periodic updates, you can contact them on 0330 999 1750

Once patients are discharged, arrangements will be made by their staff for either collecion by their owner or transfer the pet back to Abbey Veterinary Centre via East Durham Animal Ambulance.
